FAQ for MIC-Guard™ System

In a dry system, is there any reason to use the MIC-Guard™ Systems?

Yes. Our experience in fire protection systems shows that the worst cases of MIC corrosion occur in dry systems. This may be because you have stagnated water residual under aerobic conditions. Aerobic bacteria are thus allowed to thrive; their by-products may support anaerobic growth.Using our biostatic coating you can continue with roll groove couplings just the way you always did.

I really do not understand how maintenance is performed after the primary application of MIC-Guard™ FPS. Can you please explain?

Each system is different, dependent upon many variables. That is why we look at each system individually and test for residual MIC-Guard™ FPS and microbiological activity every six months. We will adjust the amount of biosatic coating if necessary.

In wet system 'Will i have a high concentration of MIC-Guard™ FPS on the spot were we inject it into the system and little or none at the far end of the system'?

No. MIC-Guard™ FPS will distribute itself evenly throughout the system through a process called "ionic diffusion," much like a drop of salt water distributes the salt concentration throughout when added to a five gallon pail.

Will MIC-Guard™ AF corrode my system as well as clean it?

No. MIC-Guard™ AF does not affect ferrous and non-ferrous metals. MIC-Guard™ AF may even be used in batch treatments and allowed to stand for 24 hours to ensure cleanup.

Should MIC-Guard™ AF be circulated through the system?

No. Circulation treatments are very ineffective, as the acid does not have enough contact time to effectively clean the system. Most cleaning systems corrode the system components; that is why circulation is recommended. MIC-Guard™ AF is formulated from gentle food-grade acids. These are effective in removing tubercles and build-up but will not have any effect on the integrity of your system.
